"Grief is a healthy and necessary process. It is not healthy to avoid grief or to deny a loss for a long period of time. Avoidance of grief may lead to serious physical or emotional problems later in life."

About Me:

My name is Paulette Smith, and I am the founder of Bereavement Counselling on Wheels. I am a Registered Social Worker with several years of educational training and clinical experience.

I obtained my Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and a Bachelor of Social Work degree from York University, and a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Toronto. My post graduate studies include the completion of a six month certificate program in Bereavement Education at the University of Toronto and the Canadian Centre for Bereavement Education and Grief Counselling.

I have been working with children, youth, and families for several years. From a strength based approach, I use cognitive theory to encourage individuals to speak about the issues affecting them, while listening and validating their concerns.  My practice includes highlighting strengths, instilling hope, and providing strategies to develop and attain personal goals.
